Not a person
was stirring, not even my spouse,
The books were spread out all over my desk,
As I was cramming for my Contractor's test.
The dog was nestled
all snug by my feet,
While I
unfortunately was glued to my seat,
My family was all cozy
and warm in bed,
While I was
studying.....something I dread.
I glanced at the TV
with thoughts of turning it out,
Then I saw an ad for
Cam Tech....What's
that about?
Away from my desk, I
flew like a flash,
I flew up my arms, my
head I wanted to bash!
It finally occurred to
me what I should've done.
Came dawn, I
immediately dialed the phone.
When what to wandering
ears did I hear?
I still have time for
Cam Tech
classes this year!
I sent in my
registration and included my check,
I knew in a moment I
could depend on Cam Tech!
I attended the classes
and used my Course Book!
I knew
Cam Tech
was the best, after just one look.
Now Cam, Rita, Kathy,
Patti, Tim, Joe, Ron and more,
And Alex, Joe, Steve,
Todd and Joe in the Bookstore,
They topped my list,
never to fall,
If you want to pass
the Exam the first time,
give Cam Tech
a call!

The History
of the Christmas Tree -
The tradition of having an
evergreen tree become a symbol of Christmas goes back past recorded written
history. The Druids in ancient England & Gaul and the Romans in Europe
both used evergreen branches to decorate their homes and public buildings to
celebrate the Winter Solstice. Over the years, these traditions were
adopted by Christians, who incorporated them as part of their Christmas holiday
celebration. Trees used specifically to celebrate Christmas are mentioned
in the early 1600's in Germany and surrounding countries. The families
would set up these trees in a prominent location of their home and decorate them
with colored paper, small toys, food and sometimes candles. As these
people moved or immigrated to other countries, they brought this tradition with
them. Through the years many different things were used to decorate
Christmas trees. As the world moved into the 1900's, many trees were
decorated with strings of popcorn, homemade cards and pictures, cotton to look
like snow, candy in all shapes and sizes, and occasionally, fancy store made
glass balls and hand blown glass figurines. Candles were sometimes used,
but often caused devastating fires, and many different types of candle holders
were devised to try to prevent tree fires. Electric tree lights were first
used just 3 years after Thomas Edison has his first mass public demonstration of
electric lights back in 1879. The early Christmas tree lights were
homemade and quite expensive. Today Christmas tree ornaments can be found
in nearly every size, color, and shape imaginable, and they are used to decorate
the millions of Christmas trees used throughout the world.

Terrorism bill approved by Congress
The Senate passed a three-year measure to cover up to $90 billion of damage done
in future terror attacks. The movement came after a compromise on unlimited
punitive damages. President Bush says the legislation "''will help get America's
hard hats back on the job ... and spur billions in new investment in
construction projects all across the country."
How to manage overhead
Expenses that can be charged to more than one job can be difficult for some
businesses to track. Some firms require company personnel to comply with budgets
for such items as cell phones, vehicle expenses and unemployment claims. Under
charging for work is the major cause of business failure in construction.

JUST A FEW STATISTICS:
Florida Construction: August Markets Up 21 Percent
On the heels of
reporting a strong July, the Dodge Division of McGraw-Hill Construction reported
that the value of August contracts for future construction in the state of
Florida increased by 21 percent compared to the same period of a year ago. By
category, the numbers for August 2002 compared to those from last year as
follows:
- Non-residential construction increased by 23
percent. This month's total was roughly $1.1 billion, well ahead of last
year's figure of about $872.7 million.
- Residential construction grew by 11 percent compared
to last year. The total for this category was just over $2.1 billion, compared
to the roughly $1.9 billion estimate from a year ago.
- Non-building construction increased by an impressive
57 percent. The most current figure was roughly $667.4 million, well ahead of
last year's $426.2 million estimate.
The August numbers push the year-to-date total for 2002
ahead by 3 points to 7 percent ahead of 2001. Even with the strong increases in
the other categories, residential remains the only positive category for the
year, with a 15 percent upswing so far this year. To date, 2002 contracts for
future work total approximately $28.25 billion, compared to the roughly $26.5
billion reported at the same time last year.
By category, 2002 year-to-date totals were as follows:
- Non-residential activity is down by 2 percent for
the year, with almost $7.3 billion reported through August. That compares to
the nearly $7.4 billion reported at the same time for 2001;
- Residential construction is up by 15 percent. To
date, this category totals just over $16.8 billion, compared to the $14.7
billion posted a year ago.
- Despite its 57 percent uptick in August,
non-building construction remains down by 4 percent compared to 2001. The
total for the year was estimated at almost $4.2 billion, compared to the
year-ago figure of just over $4.3 billion.
