2001 FLORIDA BUILDING CODE NEWS
New 2001 Florida Building Codes will be enforced this year!
The State of Florida has released new code books specifically for Florida. Previously, Florida has been referencing the Standard Building Codes, published by Southern Building Code Congress International. The last "official" date for enforcement of the new codes that we have seen is March, 2002. Visit www.floridabuilding.org for the "official" Building Code news. You can even view a chapter by chapter comparison of the old and the new code!
All contractors are required to take a "4-hour Core Course" within 2 years of receiving their license or 2 years of the enforcing date. This Core Course will explain the differences between the old and the new code books. This Core Course will also count as 4 hours towards your Continuing Educaiton credits. CAM TECH is offering the Core Course and Continuing Education classes this year! Visit our website at www.camtechschool.com and Register for class!
The new 2001 Florida Code books have been revised! Some contractors applying for permits may have been asked to comply with the revisions to the new code. What are these revisions? How does one obtain them? The "legalese" version is available to download (here), but the printed revisions that are insertable into your Code books will be available in about a week or two. CAM TECH will offer the revisions as soon as we can get them.
CILB NEWSLETTER
Taken from the latest CILB newsletter, available at http://www.state.fl.us/dbpr/pro/cilb/newsletter.pdf. This material is not CAM TECH text:
It is common for government to lag behind the private sector in technology. The current administration is making a concerted effort to narrow that gap. Goals include a paperless application process that takes minutes instead of months, instant verificaiton of on-line license status, the elimination of continuing education audits and other initiativas that will translate into significant savings in time and money for contractors and the general public.
The department has recently created a Constomer Contact Center to address problems with providing information and assistance. it has also relocated the board administrative office from Jacksonville to the Tallahassee area. The Customer Contact Center can be reached at (850) 487-1395.
The department is implementing a new program to ensure that all licensees have completed their continuing education requirements before licenses are renewed. Audits of a small percentage of the licensee population will be replaced by a 100% review.
The State's website is www.myflorida.com and there you can get all sorts of information about licenses and other subjects. On our website, in the Resources section, there are links to several areas of the State's website, including the new DBPR Online Services. There, you can apply for the State exam online, change a license status, view your Continuing Education status, and more.
